Kaga
The central part of Kaga City is called Daishoji area, a castle town of the Daishoji Domain. At the foot of Mt. Kinjo there used to be a well-organized castle town consisted of the residence of the local lord, samurai houses, and craftsmen’s districts. This is a place where a graceful culture that could match the sophisticated culture of Kanazawa city, Ishikawa prefecture. Especially the Kutani ware represents Kaga’s culture by its artistic quality. Colorful porcelain wares attract many people and you can thoroughly enjoy their vivid colors at Kutaniyaki Art Museum. Kaga city faces the Sea of Japan, and had flourished as the hub for the ‘kitamaebune’ trading, cargo ships in Edo to Meiji period. In Hashidate area, you can see gorgeous mansions of ‘kitamaebune’ owners that have been designated as Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Historic Buildings. It’s worth strolling around.
