Uchiko
Whitewashed wall houses in nostalgic town make you feel as if you were in the Edo Period.
Area Map
Uchiko town has been flourished as a hub for water transport, post-town for Shikoku pilgrims, and producing area for Japanese traditional paper. In Yokaichi and Gokoku areas you can see a row of white-washed wall houses and shops have preserved the atmosphere of Edo period. In recent years some of the houses have been redesigned as cozy cafes and souvenir shops which draw many tourists. From JR Uchiko station to the popular area of Machinami Chushajo, or Townscape Parking Lot, where many sightseeing attractions are concentrated, you can take a shuttle service of a nostalgic cab-behind-engine bus called “Chagamaru.” The shuttle service is operating on Saturdays, Sundays, and National holidays. Though it is in walking distance, Chagamaru will give you a valuable memory of your visit.
