From the northmost tip of Japan, the Soya Cape, you can see the silhouette of Sakhalin Island, Russia in the far north. The scenery of the sunset from the cape is breathtakingly beautiful, attracting many tourists from all over Japan. At the souvenir shop on the cape, you can obtain a "Certificate of arrival at the northmost point of Japan" as a memento of your visit. Wakkanai is also a hub port of ferry boats to islands including Rebun Island that is famous for its more than 300 kinds of alpine plants, and Rishiri Island, each of the islands is accessible within two hours. 2-4 lines a day are in service, so you can enjoy a day trip to those islands.
