Udo Jingu Shrine

Throw a “luck ball” to a strangely shaped rock in the Sea of Hyuga and try your luck.

Area Map

Udo Jingu Shrine
Udo Jingu’s main building is placed in a cave at the end of the Cape Udozaki that is protruding to the Sea of Hyuga. The shrine is affectionately called “Udo-san" by the locals. The shrine has long been worshipped for its power of matchmaking, happy marriage, fishery, and sea voyage. Surrounded by strangely shaped rocks, the shrine is also known for its beautiful scenery. When you visit the shrine, a must-try is the “Untama” or “luck ball” throwing. You throw a pebble called an “untama” to a target hollow on a rock called “turtle rock,” and it is said that your wish will come true if the pebble successfully hits and sits in the hollow. Five untamas cost 100 JPY. Why don’t you try your luck?
