Jigokudani Yaen Koen

The only place in the world where monkeys take a hot spring.

Area Map

Jigokudani Yaen Koen
Since 1970, when a picture of monkeys in a hot spring was featured on the Life Magazine, the park has drawn many visitors. Especially during the Nagano Winter Olympic Games in 1998, many foreigners from all over the world were attracted to this unique spot. Wild monkeys around the area are fed and visible throughout the year. But they are taking a hot spring mostly in winter and are reluctant when weather is getting warmer. In winter you need to wear cold-proof clothes because it is freezing. As for accommodations, Kanbayashi Hot Spring Resort and Yudanaka Hot Spring Resorts are recommended due to their good accessibility.
