Tottori Sand Dunes are located in the east part of Tottori Prefecture and has the largest sand undulations in Japan, East to west, 16km and north to south, 2.4km. On the surface of the dune, many beautiful designs such as Fumon; patterns on the sand made by blowing wind, and Suribachi; sand holes that look like an earthenware mortar, are made due to its light dry sand and strong wind. At night, you can look down a beautiful fires for luring fishes from the top of dunes. For activities, Sakyu (sand dunes) Beach is crowded by beach-goers in summer and there are hot springs where you can view the magnificent scenery of the Sea of Japan. For your taste butt, Sunatamago, a steamed egg by the heat of dune, pickled scallion, a local product, and fresh sea foods from the Sea of Japan are recommended. And for sports activities, you can enjoy camel-riding, paragliding, and sandboarding.
