Nezu-jinja Shrine has been designated as a national important cultural property. The main shrine building (Honden) and the worship hall (Haiden) retain the atmosphere at the time of its construction in the Edo Period (beginning of 17th century to the middle of 19th century). The precinct is filled with approximately 50 species, 3,000 azaleas which come into flower in the middle of April to May with white, pink, and orange colors in front of the stately shrine building. During that period, "Bunkyo Azelea Festival" is held, offering various activities and events including the portable shrine, children parade, potted plant market, and sweet sake house. The peaceful atmosphere comes back after the festival, returning to its magnificent yet solemn nature. Enjoying the beauty of flowers is tasteful, but a quiet and peaceful visit is also a refreshing experience.
