Sashimi

Fukuoka Prefecture is surrounded on three sides by seas: the Genkai Sea, the Hibiki Sea, the Suo Sea, and the Ariake Sea. As fresh seafood arrives here from all over Kyushu, visitors can enjoy a range of seasonal fish no matter what time of year it is. Our recommendation would have to be the fresh sashimi! In Kyushu, the local style is to have it with a sweeter soy sauce. If you’re not happy with raw fish, then try it grilled or stewed. However you have it, the fresh fish here goes wonderfully with a beer brewed produce a good frothy head.

Hakata Bite-size Gyoza

Hakata gyoza use a small wrapper than normal gyoza, making them small enough to eat with a single bite. However, they may be small in size, but not in their great flavor! Some restaurants will serve them on the piping-hot griddle they were fried on. Having bite-sized gyoza, taking a drink of beer, having another bite-sized gyoza… you might find yourself unable to stop….

Motsunabe

Motsunabe is beef or pork offal (motsu) cooked in a stewpot (nabe). Stock made from bonito or kombu kelp is added to the pot, then soy sauce or miso or other ingredients are added to season it before vegetables and other items are added. The unique texture of offal mingles with the meat juices and umami flavor of the vegetables. Finally, noodles are added to finish off the meal with a bowl of ramen. If you’ve got a piping-hot pot of stew, you can’t go wrong by reaching for a beer.
