Area Map
Built about 1,300 years ago, Nagataki Hakusan Shrine has long been worshipped as the center of Hakusan faith. It is said that a thousand pilgrims were making a line in front of the temple at its golden age, but the faith became less popular during the civil war era (around the 16th century) as Jodo-Shin sect gained popularity. In the Meiji era, valuable buildings were destroyed by a big fire. The current temple building was rebuilt by scaling down the original building. Yet the appearance conveys the dignity in the old days, and the building accommodates many art works designated as important cultural assets, including pots, Noh masks, and halberds.
The busiest time of year is the Hanaubai Festival held in January. It is a big event many people gather to pray for peace in the household, and prosperous business.
