Unique, one-of-a-kind park of history.

Area Map

Nara Park
Nara Park is a large park of history with the total area of 660 hectares (1,631 acre). It contains valuable historic cultural legacies such as Kofukuji temple, Todaiji temple and Kasuga Taisha shrine, as well as cultural facilities such as National Museum and Shosoin storehouse, forming a place for relaxation and refreshment surrounded by a rich natural environment that perfectly matches the historic city retaining the ancient ambience. Playing with the herd of deer will make you forget the busy daily life for a while. There are many events held for every season, like the burning of Mt. Wakakusa (known as "yamayaki"), Dear-antler-cutting ceremony and Shibano, a traditional Noh play performed on the green grass, making the nature itself as a large-scale stage. The romantic streetscape around the area including the historic buildings lit brightly by floodlighting is breathtakingly beautiful in the night.
