Marugame City is located in the center of Kagawa Prefecture and has developed as a castle town of Marugame Castle. The castle is designated as an important cultural property and its stone walls are regarded as the most beautiful ones in Japan. From the top of the castle, you can look down the beautiful city, which worth a trip. The city emphasizes on artworks, and there are three art museums in the city. Among the best is Marugame City Museum which exhibits the works of Gen-ichiro Inokuma, who was born in Marugame City and became a world-famous painter. A popular local product is Marugame uchiwa, or a folding fan, and some factories are open to the public display, where you can take a look at the techniques of craftsmen making the through 47 steps.
