Naoshima Island is located in the Inland Sea and is known for its emphasis on art, so to speak, the island itself is made to an open-air art gallery. Even a small island, it is an island of art gallery galore, Chichu Art Museum, Benesse House Museum, and Lee Ufan Museum are there on the island and the shuttle bus service connects each museums. In Honmura area, northern part of the island, Ie Project is so successful, which is turning uninhabited houses into artworks. The project has turned seven empty houses into art houses so far. The public transportation is not so helpful in the island, therefore, using a rental car or bicycle is highly recommended.
