Niigata Area Map
Niigata is well-known for the highest class “Uonuma Koshihikari” brand rice. Good rice makes good sake - from nationally known breweries to small ones, there are many sake breweries in the prefecture. The prefecture is divided into four areas: Joetsu, Chuetsu, Kaetsu, and Sado. Each area has unique tourist attractions. Known as a heavy snow area, open-air baths in a snow-covered scenery is very popular among overseas tourists. Japanese crested ibis, once extinct bird, has been bred and released in the Sado Island -- if you are lucky, you can view the bird.
