It is said that Bessho Hot Spring was discovered by Japanese mythical Hero, Yamato Takeru-no-Mikoto. Based on this story, the hot spring is said to be the oldest hot spring in Japan. Many powers-that-be had visited this hot spring and built many temples and shrines to commemorate their visits, now some of which are designated as National Treasures. In there you can experience Zen meditation and Goma, a ceremony with burning woods to evoke divinity. The atmosphere is typical Japanese hot spring resort, you can thoroughly relax yourself.
