Osorezan Bodaiji Temple

Desolate rocky area, smell of sulphur, sound of rotating windmills. Osorezan (Mt. Osore) Bodai Temple is said to be a place where the souls of the dead gathers, and famous for traditional channelers, Itako. Osorezan Festival is held annually from July 20 – 24, and the area is full of visitors. The channeling by Itako is performed during this period. There are four public hot spring baths in the precinct, boasting the efficacy of healing rheumatism, gastrointestinal disorders, and cuts. As the temple is built in a snowy area, the mountain is open only between May 1 and October 31.
