Area Map

Hakodate is a port town facing the Honshu, the main island of Japan. The town used to prosper with the international trading - the traces of the prosperity can be seen in many historic buildings throughout the city. In Motomachi area, there are churches, Western-style houses and buildings that were used as embassies of countries including Russia and England. In the bay area, the red brick warehouses that were in service when the international trading was active have been redesigned and rebuilt as restaurants and other shops while retaining their figures in old days, and now prospering as a gourmet spot for locals and tourists. After the sunset, the night view from the Mt. Hakodate is a must-see - it's one of the three most beautiful night views of Japan. The sparkling city lights and the fishing fire off the coast will give you a fantastic scenery you can never experience anywhere else.
