Surrounded by rich nature, such as The lake Biwa and Suzuka mountains, Hikone City has developed as a castle town. Hikone City has preserved many historic and cultural assets, such as Hikona castle, the castle tower of which is designated as a National Treasure, Genkyu-en, a landscape garden located at the northeast part of Hikone castle, over 400 cherry trees that are beautifully colored with pink and white in the season, and many temples & shrines. As for foods, a sweet-fish porridge, carp sushi and Omi beef are recommended. Hikone Fireworks Festival is held on August 1 every year - with more than 6,000 fireworks, the festival will give you a spectacular experience.
