Otsuki

City of greenery and a murmuring of streams,
surrounded by steep mountains.

Area Map

Otsuki
The City of Otsuki is located in the east part of Yamanashi Prefecture. There is not as many attractions as Mt. Fuji or Fuji Five Lakes, but it's an area worth a visit to experience "Japan-ness" remaining here and there around the city. The first place you may want to visit is one of the 'Three Most Interesting Bridges in Japan", Saruhashi (Monkey bridge). The approximately 30 meters long wooden bridge was built more than 1,000 years ago. The unique structure has no bridge pier, and surprisingly, no nail is used, either. The bridge is still in service. Now, if you are hungry, enjoy the local specialty Otsuki Udon (thick Japanese wheat nodles). Otsuki udon is thick, resilient and pleasantly tough when it is chewed in the mouth, making it addictive.
