Area Map

Horaiji Temple, at the top of 695-meter-high mountain, has long been known as a sacred training place for mountain ascetics. Almost all the mountain is covered by primeval forests, and it is famous as a habitat of Eurasian scops owls. You can drive close to the temple, but we recommend you to take the 1,425 stone steps from the main approach. Blowing soft wind, refreshing greenery, twitters of birds, and the wonderful scenery -- it takes time to climb up to the top, but it will surely give you a good and enjoyable hiking opportunity. The grandeur view from the top will refresh you and ease your physical fatigue. It is a good idea to visit the temple in fall when the red leaves are in their high time.
