The morning market of Katsuura, one of the most famous morning markets in Japan, has been held every day for more than 400 years. At 6:00 in the morning, vegetables cropped in the early morning and fresh fish just landed from the fishing boats are lined up in a row on the street. The most conspicuous of all is the local specialty bonito that is landed at the Katsuura port. You can buy it with 20-30% lower price than the market price and taste it as sashimi (raw fish), chopped or boiled with soy sauce and sugar. Another local specialty is "Katsuura Tantan-men (hot soup noodle)." The noodle with a red and hot soup was invented to warm the body of the woman shell divers.
