The first moss phlox was planted more than fifty years ago. It was planted by Mrs. Kunita at the edge of a mulberry field. Since then she repeated separating the roots of the mother plant and taken care of them, and it has become such a large and beautiful field you see today.
Unfortunately Mrs. Kunita passed away more than ten years ago, now her daughter and local volunteers are taking care of the moss phlox field. Mrs. Kunita’s great efforts have been successfully transferred to the next generation. As a result, the moss phlox field has won many awards including the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ Award and the Prime Minister’s Award. It's also drawing attention of many people thanks to mass media, and the number of tourists visit the moss phlox field is constantly increasing.
