Area Map

Obihiro is known for Ban'ei Keiba (steeplechase), the only horse-drawn sleigh racing in the world. In the steeplechase, horses and the jockeys on the sleigh overcome the obstacles and rush to the goal. The powerful draft horses are twice the size of thoroughbreds and have thicker legs, attracting the spectators with the powerfulness and vigor, not the sharp and flexible beauty of thoroughbreds. Races are held throughout the year at Obihiro Racetrack, so you can join the excitement anytime when you visit the area. At the Horse Museum adjacent to the racetrack you can learn the history of the rare horse race in the world. There is a tourist information center in the museum, so you can get useful information and guide for your Obihiro sightseeing.
