Area Map

Kamitokikunike (The Kamitokikuni’s) had an absolute power since the medieval period in the Okunoto area. And its history is said to date back to the Heike family, the most powerful family in the 12th century but collapsed in the battle at Dan-noura in Yamaguchi in 1185. The house consists of three buildings, the main building, a burn and a rice granary. It took 30 years to complete the construction. The Kamitokikuni family had been a privileged family and governed the Okunoto area. The size of the residence is the largest in the Hokuriku region. The buildings and gardens are designated as an Important Cultural Property, its elaborated interior and magnificent beams are spectacular. The exhibition room next to the main building displays many materials about the Kamitokikuni family.
