Kuno-zan Toshogu Shrine was built in 1617 with the most advanced building technologies at that time to bury and enshrine the first Edo shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is regarded as the prototype model of Nikko Thoshogu Shrine in Tochigi prefecture which is famous as a shrine enshrining Ieyasu, too. With its superior styles and artistic value, the shrine is designated as a national treasure.
One of the highlights is the museum filled with invaluable historic display items including the arms and armors of Tokugawa shoguns. Under strict conservation management, the valuable cultural assets show you as they used to be hundreds of years ago.
1,159 steps lead you to the main building of the shrine on the mountain, but a ropeway is available. You can enjoy the great view from the top of the mountain.
