Yumekyobashi Castle Road

Old but new, dream town with a beautiful townscape remaining to this day.

Area Map

Yumekyobashi Castle Road
From the edge of the moat of Hikone Castle to Kyobashi, a straight street is extending through the stone walls. This road is called “Yumekyobashi castle road,” where the traditional landscape of the castle town such as black lattice windows, wing walls, white-washed walls, smoked roofing tiles, and gabled roofs have been preserved to this day. New project rearranged the townscape based on a concept of “OLD NEW TOWN.” Based on the concept, a 6-meter-width road is constructed passing through the town to recreate a castle town in the Edo Period. The construction had gone from 1985 to 1999 and the renovation of the area was completed. Now cozy cafes, boutiques, souvenir shops and restaurants are alongside the road, attracting many visitors.
