The sacred sites and pilgrimage routes which spans Wakayama, Nara, and Mie Prefectures have been registered as World Heritages as “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage routes in the Kii Mountain Range.” One of the representative routes, Kumano Kodo route, leads to three Kumano mountain shrines. Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine, one of the three Kumano mountain shrines, is located in Nachi Katsu-ura city. The shrine is one of the central shrines of the cult of Kumano. At the top of 473 stone steps there are six shrine buildings, each of which is enshrining different god. The main god is Kumano Fusumi-no-Kami. An annex shrine Hiro shrine is enshrining a 133-meter-high waterfall Nachi Waterfall, one of the three great waterfalls in Japan.
