Every time you visit Kurashiki, you will always encounter new attractions -- White-wall mansions, Edo-style townscape, willow colonnades on the banks of Kurashiki River and so on. Most of the areas are designated as Preservation Districts. For example, Higashimachi area, galleries, groceries, Jazz cafes, cafes are keeping harmony with traditional white-walled houses and lattice-windowed houses. The blend of old and new is extraordinary. The Bikan area, alongside Kurashiki River, is the center of tourism where Kurashiki IVY Square, a Multi-purpose complex on the former Kurashiki cotton-mill site, Ohara Museum, the first private western modern art museum.
