Area Map

The Tokugawa Art Museum boasts more than ten thousand display items including arms, armors, and heirlooms, as well as the suit of armor the first Tokugawa shogun Ieyasu actually put on. The museum is also in possession of a national treasure “The Tale of Genji” picture scroll. The number of items and the superior conditions of preservation are worthy of special mention, and many of the items are available only here. Though the museum is regularly replacing the display items, it is said to take a decade to put everything on display because of the sheer volume of items they possess. That means you always find new items every time you visit here.
One of the highlights is that some parts of the Tokugawas' residence have been reconstructed here and used as exhibition halls. At the reconstructed tearoom and noh stage are tea utensils and noh costumes, attracting visitors with the beauty.
