Obama City has developed as a cultural city that has a long history of association with Kyoto, embracing more than one-hundred temples which have been transmitting many festivals and traditional arts to this day. “Saba Kaido,” or Mackerel Road, was built in ancient times for delivering fresh mackerel to people in Kyoto, and in return, Kyoto provided the latest culture and arts to Obama that contributed Obama’s development. Along the Mackerel Road are many temples with statues of Buddha built in Heian and Kamakura periods. Of course, the fresh seafood is one of the best tourist attractions -- Wakasa flat fish, pickled sea breams, Wakasa blowfish, etc., you can enjoy a variety of local specialties.
