Area Map

The symbol of Zao town is Okama, a volcanic lake at the top of Mt. Zao. The color of it changes based on the weather conditions, like emerald green or sky blue. You can drive to a ten-minute distance from Okama, then walk to the lake. Each season has unique attractions; trees covered with hoar frost in winter, verdant green in spring, cool summer, and the changing color of mountains in fall. On your way back home, Togatta Hot Spring Resort is the place you should stop at -- it has 400 years of long history with great food, you can stay in a hotel or Japanese style inn, or make a one-day trip to enjoy the hot spring.
