Area Map

Godaido is a symbol of Mastuyama city, and has ensconced the wooden statues of five Myo-os, or Wisdom Kings; Godai Myo-o, Daisei-fudomyo-o, Toho-ryusansei, Seiho-ryusansei, Nanpo-gundari, and Hoppo-kongoyasha. It was built by Date Masamune, the feudal lord of the Sendai domain, in 1604 and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property for its Momoyama culture -style building technique, a gorgeous-built construction. The island where Godaido is placed is regarded as a sacred place, and Sukasibashi Bridge is connecting to the island. The gaps which are intentionally made between the boards on the bridge are to make the sea visible. It is a trick to make pilgrims brace themselves up by fear. Brace yourself up when passing.
