With beautiful Azusa River and magnificent mountains, Kamikochi is located 1500 m above the sea level and known to its beautiful landscape. One hour walk from Kappabashi Bridge will bring you to Myozin-ike Pond which is surrounded by untouched nature - if you are lucky you can encounter mallards, mandarin ducks and chars can be seen. At another pond, Taisho-ike Pond, was formed by the eruption of Mt. Yakedake 100 years ago. When the eruption took place, the larva dammed Azusa River to make a large pond. The landscape is eloquently showing the power of nature with deforested trees standing over the pond. Automobiles are not accessible to the site due to the preservation of nature. However, the landscape will give you a valuable experience that outweighs the inconvenience of access.
