“Expelling evil spirits” means you pray to god for protection from disaster, suffering, and sickness. Nishiaraidaishi is a famous temple for expelling evil spirits. The precinct is always crowded with people not only for expelling evil spirits but also for every day’s prayer and for the peace of mind.
One of their purposes is the beautiful flowers such as plum, cherry, peony, wisteria, hydrangea, and maples will make a great scenery unique to each season. Especially famous for 2,500 peony flowers of about 100 species, the temple is also called “Botan (peony) temple.”
There are also many national treasures, important cultural assets, and art objects at the temple. The temple is both culturally and academically valuable.
