Area Map

Located alongside the west side of Katsura River, Katsura Imperial Villa is said to be the compilation of the Japanese garden's beauty. It was constructed from the beginning to the middle of the 17th century, the area of 69,000 m2 (17 acres) contains Koshoin (small study), Chushoin (middle-size study) and Shingoten (new palace). The Shokintei in the pond is the highest class tea-ceremony house with a gabled, hipped thatch roof. Shokatei is a simpler structure tea house. There are two more tea houses, Shoiken and Gepparo, making the elegant ambience. The green trees, dignified buildings and the clear blue sky are reflected on the surface of the pond. The garden shows you varieties of faces by season. * Prior application is required for visit.
