Area Map

Zuihoden is the mausoleum of DateMasamune, the first feudal lord of the Sendai domain. It was built with respect to the will of Date Masamune when he passed away at the age of 70. The building is imposing which represents the Momoyama-culture style technique, a gorgeously built mausoleum. Zuihoden flanks with Kansenden, the mausoleum for the second lord Date Tadamune, and Zen-oden, the mausoleum for the third, Date Tsunamune that indicate how powerful the Date clan had been. At the museum next to the Zuihoden, you can see a variety of materials including relics and remains of the Date clan and also the record films of the excavation process are on display.
