Kyoto Imperial Palace was a residence of the Emperor (approx. 250 m east to west, 450 m south to north), surrounded by the roofed mud walls and the clear stream ditches. The present facilities were reconstructed in 1855, and retaining the ancient outlook of the palace with the ambience of the history and dignity everywhere. The six gates in north, south, east and west as well as the buildings Shisinden, Seiryoden, Kogosho, Ogakumonjo and Otsunegoten provide you the historic transition of the ancient architecture after the Heian Period (794 - 1192). In front of Kogosho building there is an elegant garden with a large pond that gives you beautiful changing sceneries from season to season. * Prior application is required for visit.
