Fukuura Island

A prefectural natural park that provides a great view of Matsusima Islands.

Fukuura Island is located in the east from the Matsushima beach and the whole island is a designated Prefectural Botanical Garden accommodating 250 species of plants. The island is connected with the beach by a vermilion-lacquered, 252-meter long bridge. A promenade is well-established in the island, providing a great view of Matsusima Islands. It takes an hour to go around the island and you can enjoy your tour by stopping at spots including gazebos, Tenzinsaki Promontory, shell mounds and Bentendo Shrine. You can take a light meal at the rest house near the gate, or taste some sweets at the tea house on the way to the Bentendo Shrine.
