If there's one dish that Osaka's famous for, it's okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake)! Flour is mixed into dashi (broth), and then vegetables (such as cabbage), meat, fish, and other ingredients are added to the mix. This mixture is then stirred and fried. It's beloved as the soul food of Osaka. Here are some popular restaurants that serve delicious okonomiyaki!
1. Kitashinchi N
In a stylish open space resembling a bar, this restaurant serves teppanyaki (ingredients grilled on an iron griddle). To give their characteristic okonomiyaki more of a fluffy texture, the restaurant substitutes cabbage with egg as the main base of the pancake. The texture becomes enjoyably similar to that of a soufflé cake. It also offers another Osaka specialty known as "takoyaki" (octopus fried in small balls of batter). Both are generally enjoyed with sauce poured over them, but for a lighter taste, you could also just add salt. Apart from these two, there are also a wide variety of creative and classic dishes to offer, such as Wagyu (a type of high-quality beef) steak and sautéed seafood.
