Higashiyama - Kyoto Cuisine Hozan

Located a 5-minute walk from Higashiyama Station on the subway. Kyoto Cuisine Hozan is near famous shrines and temples in the Higashiyama area. This Kaiseki restaurant lets guests enjoy boiled tofu, tofu skins, and Kyoto cuisine all at affordable prices after taking a stroll. The tofu, stocked at a long-standing tofu shop in Yamashina, has the rich flavors of soybeans. There are individual boiled tofu options, as well as the Tsukasa Kaiseki, a boiled tofu kaiseki course that is highly recommended. It features boiled tofu with 10 items, including tofu skin sashimi.

Pull back the Japanese-style shop curtain and find a casual Japanese space inside with mainly table seats. They also have counter seats facing the wall, so solo customers can also spend a good time without hesitation. The Japanese sake is carefully selected by the female restaurant head, who opened this restaurant with the goal of providing warm, comfortable, and relaxing customer service. This sake all comes from the local, long-standing Fushimi brewery, Masuda Tokube Shoten. Enjoy it along with the boiled tofu.

Located a 1-minute walk from Nijo-jo Station on the subway. At Kyo Yubadokoro Seike Nijojo Branch, guests can enjoy homemade tofu skins in the Packed with Tofu Skins Course. The served Kyoto tofu skins use specially made soy milk with 100% domestic soybeans and are carefully handmade at the main branch, the Miyama Workshop. The Kyoto tofu skins, packed with the delicious flavors of soybeans, can be enjoyed in various cooking methods, including sashimi, grilled on a ceramic plate, salad, boiled in soy sauce, and pudding.

The restaurant has only a counter with a total of nine seats. It has an atmosphere that makes it easy to use for both dates and solo customers and lets guests freely enjoy themselves despite the Kyoto-style tastes and high-class feel. The menu consists only of courses, and advance reservations are required for both dinner and lunch. Guests can also choose a course when they arrive at the restaurant by making a reservation for seats only.

Located a 10-minute walk from Keihan Gion-shijo Station. Kyoto Cuisine Isobe is a Japanese restaurant with over 50 years of history since its founding and is located in Maruyama Park, directly next to Yasaka Shrine. Their Kyoto Fresh Tofu Skins are handmade from scratch every day in their tofu skin kitchen next to the restaurant. These tofu skins have rich and creamy flavors, as they're made with 100% domestic soybeans. The restaurant also has a collection that includes Kaiseki courses and lunch boxes (3-day advance reservation required) that incorporate plenty of homemade tofu skins.

Nanzenji Ryotei Yachiyo is located on the path to Nanzenji Temple, a 5-minute walk from Keage Station on the subway. Their Nanzenji Temple Specialty Boiled Tofu is one of their signature menu items. It uses first-class Fuku Yutaka soybeans from Shiga Prefecture and Kyoto's underground water, and has used carefully handmade tofu since long ago. The broth, which uses copious amounts of Rishiri kelp and Makurazaki-made dried bonito shavings, has delicious flavors that are beyond description.

This elegant space lets guests enjoy high-quality Japanese food while gazing at a beautiful garden, as befitting its name, Ryotei (Food Garden). They can also fully appreciate the garden designed by famous gardener Mr. Jihei Ogawa, which is surrounded by the scenery of Higashiyama, considered to have some of the best scenery in Kyoto. The restaurant interior has many sides, including the spacious tatami rooms and the sunken kotatsu table seats that imitate the audience seats in Kabuki theater. These features make it a favorite spot for guests to Kyoto who want to come every time they visit the city.
