Enjoy carefully selected Kyoto beef enjoyed as shabu-shabu (boiled meat slices).
Located just a 3-minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station, you'll find Junidanya Main Store. They carefully select only A5 and A4 grade Kyoto beef, and their cooking style involves warming a special copper pot over a charcoal fire. You can enjoy their shabu-shabu with homemade secret sesame sauce. This traditional method of eating has been used since the restaurant's founding, allowing you to fully savor the deliciousness of Kyoto beef.
The shop is located just east of Hanamikoji Street in Gion. When you step into the traditional Japanese house with its charming atmosphere, a pleasant Japanese-style space unfolds before you. 2. Gion Nawate Toriyasu in Sanjo
A specialty restaurant in Gion loved for 50 years, offering mizutaki (water-boiled dishes) and various chicken dishes.
Gion Nawate Toriyasu is a renowned restaurant located just a 5-minute walk from Sanjo Station. For over fifty years, it has been known as the go-to place for mizutaki in Gion. They use specially selected Tanba Jidori chicken, freshly prepared in the morning. The exquisite soup is made by carefully simmering the chicken bones for an entire day using the famous water from the Higashiyama well on the premises.
The shop in Gion is charming from the moment you enter. The interior is uniquely designed in the Kyoto style known as Unagi no Nedoko (eel's bed), which denotes narrow and elongated rooms that enhance the atmosphere. 4. Yakiniku Genshu Goshu in Demachiyanagi
Be enchanted by Omi beef in a traditional Japanese setting with a view of a historic Japanese garden
Yakiniku Genshu Goshu is located just an 11-minute walk from Demachiyanagi Station. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes featuring Omi beef as the main ingredient, as well as Tajimaguro, a rare breed of beef raised on special feed. In addition to charcoal-grilled yakiniku, the restaurant also offers a wide selection of sashimi and yukhoe (raw meat) dishes, which are provided with a permit for handling raw meat for consumption. The shop is designed to provide a view of a Japanese garden that was landscaped 120 years ago. All seats inside the restaurant are within private rooms, and you can also appreciate the ukiyo-e reproductions on the shoji screens. These reproductions were made with permission from the Otsu City Museum.
