Michelin Guide Kyoto-Osaka 2025 Announced with a Record 469 Restaurants Listed

On March 27, 2025, the Michelin Tire Company of Japan announced the "Michelin Guide Kyoto-Osaka 2025," which introduces carefully selected restaurants. The 16th edition of the Kyoto-Osaka version features a record number of 469 restaurants, with the number of three-star establishments remaining at 8 in total for both Kyoto and Osaka, and 3 new two-star restaurants have been added. Additionally, two new Michelin Green Stars have been awarded, including the world's first Michelin Green Star for ramen. There are 4 new Bib Gourmand selections, and for the first time, a mentor chef has emerged from Osaka.

The 2025 Michelin Guide for Kyoto and Osaka features a record 469 restaurants, including three newly awarded two-star establishments, two new Green Star restaurants from Kyoto, and a mentor chef hailing from Osaka.

A total of 469 restaurants are featured, with three new two-star restaurants being born, two new Michelin Green Star restaurants emerging from Kyoto, and a mentor chef originating from Osaka.

As the Osaka-Kansai Expo approaches, they are pleased to present a selection of new restaurants recommended by Michelin in Kyoto and Osaka to travelers from both Japan and abroad, as well as to the local community. They hope this will contribute to the wonderful experiences in this region, which is expected to become even more vibrant. The newly enhanced mobile tool should assist with travel planning and mobility. This year, they continue to deliver the evolution of the Michelin Guide, which began 125 years ago with a small red book that included information on car repair shops, maps, and accommodations. They are very pleased to announce the latest restaurant selection in Kyoto and Osaka, showcasing the largest number of restaurants to date. This demonstrates that both cities have a deep understanding of excellence and continue to push the boundaries of fine dining. As three restaurants have achieved two stars, they are raising the standard of gastronomy while preserving the tradition of hospitality that transcends time. At the same time, with [milpa] receiving a star as Japan's first Mexican restaurant, Kyoto and Osaka continue to embrace new concepts, making them unmissable culinary destinations for travelers visiting Japan. There are five restaurants with a three-star rating. The Japanese restaurants [Kikunoi Honten] and [Hyotei] have maintained their three-star rating for 16 consecutive years since the first edition in 2009.
