1. Epice

This French restaurant is located in an over 100-year-old Kyo-machiya (Kyoto's old merchant's house) that's not only full of Japanese atmosphere, but whose features - inner courtyard, outbuilding, and everything else - have been left as they were in the past. Despite its renovation, it blends in seamlessly with the rest of Kyoto's townscape. Here, authentic French course cuisine made mainly with seasonal, fresh vegetables are served up.

The chef's father carved the transom above the counter.

2. Kuragari Masa

Here, you can savor Japanese cuisine in a 90-year-old Kyo-machiya that has an atmosphere that'll remind you of the Taisho era (1912 - 1926). This renovated building in Gion was initially a tea house. Traditional kimono and kimono fabrics decorate the whole place. It has a retro-modern atmosphere, along with ancient beams, pillars, and antiques.

The luxurious private room of this restaurant, which has a machiya interior with a chandelier, is quite popular among the diners.

4. Gram Romantic My Room

This gorgeously "kawaii" room with a hint of rococo makes your dream come true as you have always wanted since you were a child, with a place to sit back and relax. Feel like nobility for a day, which is quite a romantic concept for this dining bar. They offer sofa-furnished private rooms and antique-style table seats. You'll also like its gorgeous chandelier and indirect lighting.

The owner, Masayoshi Nishikawa, was trained at a famous restaurant in Kyoto. After being promoted to head chef, he decided to open his restaurant at a young age.
