Each year, Hakone attracts many visitors for its famous onsen (hot springs) - but it has much more to offer! It is an area full of wonderful food, so here is a list of restaurants that can make your trip an even more memorable one!

1. Mitsuki

This is a casual space for relaxation that is connected to Hakone-Yumoto Station. It offers a variety of original menu items that are appropriate for people of all ages. The [Nama-dofu Shake], made with fantastic tofu from Hakone, is its pride, and comes in 5 flavors: vanilla, strawberry, mango, blueberry, and matcha (green tea). The freshly made [Menchi Katsu Burger] and [Hakone Onsen Town's Midnight Ramen] are other dishes that you'll want to try while traveling. This is a perfect location to sit on the terrace and enjoy a meal with the seasonal view of Hakone.

2. Naokichi
Their [Yuba Bowl] is an incredibly popular, healthy, and tasty dish. It is an outstanding and luxurious dish of kumiage yuba (creamy tofu skin), made with spring water from Hakone, and high-quality soy milk simmered in a delicate dashi (broth). It is cooked to fluffiness with eggs, and served on top of rice. The restaurant itself has a very comfortable atmosphere, so it is a popular location for couples and families to stop and rest while traveling. In addition to the meals, there is a free footbath called "Mocchan-no Ashiyu", so you are sure to enjoy your visit here!

This is a restaurant that serves everything from the traditional dishes of Fujiya Hotel, to Chinese side dishes, salads, hors d'oeuvres, and desserts. 4. Sengokuhara Yuzen
Sengokuhara Yuzen is a hideaway for adults that's surrounded by the grand nature of Hakone. The tables in the restaurant are all made of solid timber, with a variety of seating, such as zashiki seating on the floor, horigotatsu (sunken kotatsu table), chairs, and terrace seating to accommodate different requirements. This allows customers to relax without having to choose a specific setting. Both the food and sake (Japanese alcohol) are very highly rated, and the seafood procured directly from Atami is of superb quality. Special care is also taken for the meat. They use Bimi-dori (Bimi chicken) from Shizuoka, Yogurt-ton (Yogurt pork) from the Asagiri Highland (Asagiri Kogen), and domestic Japanese beef. The restaurant has a wide selection of sake, so you can try different ones to suit your food. The ji-zake (Japanese local alcohol) from Ebina in Kanagawa, [Izumibashi], is particularly popular. This is a restaurant where you can enjoy the finest food and sake in a comfortable environment, so make sure to stop by when you are in Hakone.

Kinopi House is a yoshoku (Japanese-style Western cuisine) restaurant with the feel of a hideaway that's known only to those in the know. It is run by the owner-chef, Kinoshita, who used to be the head chef of a long-established hotel in Hakone. It has a large menu that includes the [Hambagu] (Japanese-style hamburger steak), which is so popular that many people come regularly for it. The restaurant has a cozy feel and gets high points for comfort. Prices are reasonable too, so it is a highly recommended destination for great yoshoku in a relaxing setting.

6. Toukarou
Toukarou is a Chinese restaurant inside Yumoto Fujiya Hotel. It has a stylish interior with some private rooms, and is appropriate for a variety of different occasions. It is highly rated for its dishes that are made with plenty of fresh seafood, cooked in a style with European influences. The most recommended menu items are the [Sweet and Sour Pork] and [Shiba Shrimps in Chili Sauce]. Be sure to visit to experience the flavors of a first-rate Chinese restaurant here! Though it is located in a hotel, it is open to the public.

Yamahiko Zushi is famous for its local fish, selected by a fishmonger with a 70-year history. The head chef has been making sushi for 35 years. All the ingredients are fantastic, but the nigiri sushi (hand-formed sushi) that uses local fish caught just that morning is outstanding! In addition, the lunch-only [Kaisen-don] (rice bowl dish of seafood) is a must-try. The [Grilled Tuna Collar] that is slowly cooked at 180°C is also recommended. The restaurant is also particular about its sake, and offers 11 different brands that go perfectly with the fresh, local fish procured from around the country, including [Ryu] and [Tanzawasan].

8. Shinsho Soba
Shinsho Soba is famous for its authentic, handmade soba (buckwheat noodles) that brings out the natural flavor of buckwheat. The [Natural Hakone Taro Soba] that is limited in quantity and only available in the winter is a popular dish that's unique to Hakone. The 100% buckwheat [Juwari Soba], of which only 20 servings are available each day, is also very popular. If you want to enjoy the natural flavors of soba, order the [Seiro], and if you want a luxurious dish that'll truly give you a taste of Shinsho Soba, the [Ten Seiro] is recommended. The restaurant is in a building that's designed in the style of an old local residence, with a relaxing atmosphere that makes it perfect for stopping by during your travels. This is a famous restaurant in Hakone Yumoto. The secret to its popularity lies in the glass-paneled showroom, through which you can see the noodles being made by hand. 11. Hatsuhana Main Branch
The wild taro soba at the main branch of Hatsuhana in Hakone Yumoto is made with 3 ingredients: buckwheat, wild taro, and eggs. No water is used. Since taro is used as a binder, the noodles do not stretch out over time, making them popular to take home as souvenirs. The restaurant interior has a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere that's reminiscent of the Edo period (1603 - 1868), with private rooms that let you enjoy your meal without worrying about other customers. 12. Shinshou Soba
Shinshou Soba is a cafe where you can drop by while strolling around Hakone to enjoy delicate homemade sweets. Its most popular item is the [Cream Anmitsu], made with an abundance of its famous homemade anko (sweet bean paste). The cafe's original dishes made with buckwheat, such as the [Buckwheat Ice Cream] and [Buckwheat Shiruko] (sweet red bean soup with mochi (sticky rice cake)​) are also popular, with many returning customers visiting every time they are in Hakone. The steaming hot curry - made with the high-quality water of Hakone and 17 different spices - is so popular that the restaurant is bustling every day with regular customers. The spicy curry is made with great dedication to flavor, and goes perfectly with the healthy rice that has black rice mixed in. The curry is cooked with [Enmei no Wakimizu] (spring water from Tamadare Waterfall (Tamadare no Taki)). Steak House Yoshiike is a restaurant where the chef will grill your food on an iron grill right in front of you, so you can enjoy watching the process from placing the order until the food is ready.
